Eliézer Hernández, MD, PA, is a skilled pediatrician with over 40 years’ experience in pediatric care. He offers comprehensive health services for infants and children at Yeled Shalom Pediatric Clinic in Eagle Pass, Texas. Dr. Hernández provides on-site diagnostic and treatment services for acute and chronic conditions, including flu, infections, allergies, and asthma. He is also skilled in newborn care to ensure the best start in life.
Dr. Hernández enjoys being involved in the growth and development of children. He provides annual physicals and behavioral health evaluations, including assessments for autism and other developmental conditions. Customized treatment plans focus on the overall health and wellness of each of his patients.
Earning his medical degree from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, Ciudad Universitaria, Facultad de Medicina in Mexico City, Mexico, Dr. Hernández completed his pediatric residency training at Hospital Central Militar in Mexico City, Mexico, and at Scott White Hospital in Temple, Texas.
For the convenience of his patients, Dr. Hernández speaks both English and Spanish fluently. When he’s not working with his patients, Dr. Hernández enjoys traveling and reading.

Carlos A. Flores Oria, MD was born in Mexico City, Mexico, and raised in Venezuela. He earned his medical degree from University of Carabobo, Valencia, Venezuela, and completed his pediatric residency at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He continued his career at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston where he became a pediatric pulmonologist. He is board-certified in pediatrics and board-eligible in pediatric pulmonology. Dr. Flores cares for children’s well-being from infancy through adulthood and provides both preventive care and medical treatment for childhood illnesses. His specialties are respiratory diseases in children such as bronchiolitis, asthma, and chronic lung disease. Dr. Flores speaks both Spanish and English.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, painting, and flying remote controlled scaled aircrafts.
Landy Gurwell

Landy Gurwell, MPAS, PA-C was born in Monclova, Coahuila Mexico and raised in Allende, Coahuila. She emigrated to Texas when she was 15 years old where she graduated from Eagle Pass High School. Landy attended Southwest Texas Junior College and later transferred to Angelo State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Landy attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Science and ultimately a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. Landy is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She has been practicing in Pediatrics for the last 9 years.Landy is happily married and has 3 kids. She enjoys spending time with her family. Her hobbies include cooking, outdoor activities and DYI projects.
Karla Barrera

Karla Barrera was born and rise in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico and move to the United States at the age of 18. She graduated from Eagle Pass C.C Winn High school in 2003 and received her Bachelors of Science at St. Edward’s University, where she was the recipient of the presidential award in 2008. As part of St. Edward’s University McNair Scholar she performed research on HIV at St. Edward’s University and Biochemical Engineering research at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She was also funded by the National Science foundation to performed research that focus on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacterium that infects the lungs of cystic fibrosis patients at the University of Texas. She was published as a co-author of the “Characterization of Alanine Catabolism in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Its Importance for Proliferation In Vivo” on the Journal of Bacteriology. After graduation she became a science teacher at Eagle Pass C.C. Winn High School. In order to pursue her dream of becoming a Physician Assistant she attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and received her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies on May 2016. She previously worked as a pediatric physician assistant at The Children’s Clinic in Laredo Texas assisting children in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic disease. Karla has 4 year’s experience as a pediatric physician assistant and is a new mother.
